On Oct.13, 2010, Sinovel Wind (Group) Co., Ltd, the largest domestic wind turbines manufacturers, officially announced at China Wind Power (CWP) 2010 Conference & Exhibition that its first self-developed 5MW wind turbines with global independent intellectual property right was formally manufactured on Oct.12, 2010. In the meantime, the R&D of 6MW wind turbines is going ahead smoothly and will roll off the assembly line in the first half of next year.

It is said that the 5MW series wind turbines include the onshore, offshore and intertidal zone types, all of which are technologically leading and globally dominating grid-friendly wind turbines, featuring high unit power, large installed capacity per unit area, high efficiency in wind power utilization and good economic benefit. A 5MW wind turbine can generate electricity of 10 GWH (equivalent to the energy of 4000t standard coals) and reduce the emission of carbon dioxide of about 8000t each year.

The 5MW series wind turbines of Sinovel use the gearbox-mounted advanced, mature, safe and reliable variable-pitch-and-speed double-fed power generating technology. In the past over 10 years, double-fed generation technology has always been an indisputable industry mainstream technology and has been widely applied by global major large-scale wind turbines manufacturers including Vestas, Siemens and Repower. At present, across the world, the gearbox-mounted wind turbines occupy over 85% market share, in particular, all the offshore wind turbines having higher requirement for technical level,stability and reliability are gearbox-mounted types.

Industry insiders pointed out that with the development of China's wind power industry, especially the full launch of the IFB of offshore wind power franchise projects, the large-scale orientation of wind turbines has been an inevitable trend. 

All the 34 sets of 3MW offshore wind turbines independently developed by Sinovel were put into grid-connected power generation in Shanghai Donghai Bridge Offshore Wind Farm Project, China's first national demonstration project on June 8, 2010 and qualified in the 240h preliminary acceptance on Aug.31, 2010, kicking off the launch of China's self-made offshore wind power projects. With the ongoing of domestic first-round IFB of 1GW offshore wind power franchise projects, in order to better meet market requirement and further reduce offshore wind power generation cost, major domestic wind power generation equipment manufacturers represented by Sinovel have begun to target at the R&D and production of large wind turbines.

Relevant superintendent of Sinovel indicated that with the large-scale orientation of current international and domestic wind turbines, the higher-efficiency 5MW wind turbines and higher-power wind turbines will inevitably become the next generation of mainstream types and will be widely applied in the onshore,offshore and intertidal zone environments and in the wind farms featuring different wind source conditions. After the 5MW wind turbines rolls off the assembly line, Sinovel's independently-developed 6MW wind turbines will also roll off the assembly line in the first half of next year. Sinovel is also launching the R&D of higher-power wind turbines.

It is also said that Sinovel's recent overseas business expansion has made important progresses: on Aug.30, 2010, in Beijing, ICBC Beijing Branch and Sinovel signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement, under which ICBC Beijing Branch will provide Sinovel with an intended financing line of RMB 10 billion Yuan or equivalent; on Sept.20, 2010, China Development Bank(CDB) and Sinovel signed the Development Finance Planning Progress and Strategic Cooperation Agreement, under which CDB will provide Sinovel with co-financing amount of $ 6.5 billion. The conclusion of the above-mentioned agreements will necessarily give strong supports to Sinovel's all-out striving for international market expansion as well as earlier realization of globalization and strategic target at the first place in the world.
