Successful Installation of the First Batch of Two 3MW Offshore and intertidal Wind Turbines of Huaneng Rongcheng Offshore Wind Power Project

On December 7, 2009, the first batch of two 3MW offshore and intertidal wind turbines of Huaneng Rongcheng Offshore Wind Power Project was successfully installed on the coastal wetland in the north of Weihai City. These two turbines with their hub height 80m and impeller diameter 106m, which were independently researched and developed by Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd. are currently the biggest wind turbines installed on the wetlands in China. This move is another success on offshore and intertidal wind turbines done by Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd. after Shanghai Donghai Bridge Project. It also realizes the localization of large-sized wind power equipment and impels the development of renewable energy.

It has been quite a long time since the cooperation between Huaneng New Energy and Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd. In 2005, they cooperatively developed and built the first localized MW-class demonstration wind power project in China, that is, Huaneng Weihai wind farm with its 46 wind turbines all adopting advanced 1.5 MW-mainstream wind turbines that were developed independently by Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd. This wind power plant was successively awarded "National Excellent Quality Project" "Excellent Quality Project in Electrical Power Industry" and other laurels after completed and put into production. It realizes the capacity class development of national wind turbines from 100 kW to MW.


In 2009, Huaneng New Energy and Sinovel again joined their forces and cooperatively developed a localized offshore wind power project in Weihai City of Shandong Province - Huaneng Rongcheng Wind Power Project. They estimated its capacity would reach 102 MW in the pre-project period and planned to install totally 34 offshore wind turbines with single-machine capacity of 3MW which were all independently researched, developed and produced by Sinovel Wind Co., Ltd. They also planned to invest RMB 2.42 billion Yuan and expected to complete the whole Project at the end of 2011 by when the yearly on-grid energy available would reach about 244.21 GW. Compared with current coal-fired power plants, this Project can save 78.3 thousand tons of standard coals and 71 thousand tons of water per year. Meanwhile, it will drastically lower the discharge of pollutants like soot, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, which will make a positive contribution to the development of green energy and low carbon economy.
