Today's Sino-American Clean Energy Partnership Strategy Forum, held in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, included the signing of a strategic framework agreement by Mr. Junliang Han, Chairman & President of SINOVEL, China's largest manufacturer of wind turbines, and Mr. Paul Harahan, President & CEO of AES Corporation, an U.S. based global power company. The honored guests attending the signing ceremony were Mr. Bijian Zheng, Chairman, China Institute of Strategy and Management; Mr. John L. Thornton, Chairman, The Brookings Institute.

According to the framework agreement, SINOVEL and AES will work together to deploy a prototype wind turbine in the U.S., pursue project opportunities globally, and potentially deliver operations and maintenance and technical support services. The framework agreement would provide AES with competitively priced, advanced technology wind turbines, while potentially opening new markets for SINOVEL wind turbines.

AES is the largest U.S. IPP, has generation and distribution businesses in 29 countries, using diverse energy sources to provide affordable and sustainable power. Currently, AES Wind Generation has more than 1,300MW in operation, with more than 500MW under construction and approximately 6,400MW in development.

SINOVEL develops, engineers, manufactures and markets wind turbines. SINOVEL Wind Co., Ltd. is specialized in high tech wind turbine generator systems and is the first company in China successful in the independent research, design, manufacturing and sale of large-scale onshore, offshore, and intertidal wind turbine generator systems that are adaptable to a variety of wind resource conditions and environmental conditions. SINOVEL deployed more than 1,400MW newly added wind turbines in 2008, making it the seventh largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world.

The Sino-American Clean Energy Partnership Strategy Forum promotes bilateral clean energy strategies through cooperation among enterprises, research institutions, as well as throughout cities and rural areas. Premier Wen Jiabao welcomed some of the meeting participants at Zhong Nan Hai; Vice Premier Li Keqiang gave audience a speech in person and U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu delivered speeches by video. The framework agreement between SINOVEL and AES has laid a solid foundation for the success of both parties, and is also one example as to how companies can work together to deploy renewable technologies.
